Make a Family Budget And Start Managing Money
Setting up a family budget is a great tool to help you get your finances in line and help you start managing your money
effectively. If you want to be able to stay at home and live a better life, than creating a budget is the key to your
success.
So, what is a budget? A budget is a tool for managing money and staying in control of the family's expenditures. This
way you are assured that there will be enough money to pay all the bills, and be on your way to saving for the future and
finding financial freedom. With a family budget you will now be able to save ahead for vacations, or children's education,
and even for retirement.
Learn How To Make A Budget
Try these budgeting tips to help you get started in creating a family budget, and you will soon see the benefits that you
will reap from your extra effort.
- Add up all income including salaries, tips, bonuses and investments
- When making a family budget, keep track of all spending for three months . Write down every purchase whether large
or small. This is a big key to success, because you will be surprised how even the small expenses add up quickly. You
need to see where your money is going.
- Add up all fixed expenses. Fixed expenses are the costs that stay the same every month, and to which you have little
control over. These expenses are things such as: house payments, rent, phone, car payments and other loans that come
monthly.
- Add up all variable expenses. Variable expenses are the costs that vary from month to month, and to which you can
alter and change according to your income level and spending needs. These expenses are things such as: food, gas, dining
out, entertainment, and travel.
- After adding up all income and expenses, take a look and see if they balance out. Hopefully your income will be
higher or equal to your expenses. However, if your finances don't balance out you will need to take a look at where your
money is going every month and begin to cut back and evaluate your family's spending habits.
- Now you will want to set up the family budget according to your results. Start listing everything in an organized
manner, categorizing all your income and expenses for one month. This can be as simple as a list on a piece of paper or
using budgeting software. Knowing the facts of your income and expenses, will help you make a budget that works for
everyone.
- Once you have a family budget, you will want to set up a savings account. Within the savings account you will
make regular deposits and keep all money in your savings that is not spent within the month. There will be expenses
within your budget that are paid annually or quarterly. These are things such as: taxes, vacations, and Christmas gifts.
You will want to figure a monthly amount for these things, and set aside the finances regularly. You will be so much
better off and won't be panicking when those big bills are due.
- Another budgeting tip is to keep a close eye on your new family budget you have created. Make sure it is working for
you. Try to fine-tune the "rough edges" of this budget as you go along. Be patient with yourself when trying to work
out the details and be considerate of the rest of the family members as they try to adjust to the new plan.
Now that you have the basics on how to make a budget you will be able to get control of your finances and start living
a better life!
