Gas Prices

Saving on today's gas prices is one of the biggest benefits of being a WAHM. With the see-sawing of the cost to fuel your vehicle, staying home and not having to worry about the next fill up can be a huge burden lifted. Often a mom will find that saving on those commute dollars will more than justify staying at home, especially those on a limited budget.

If YOUR partner still has to work outside the home, then why not do what you can to save money on gas prices , which is a great way to contribute towards streamlining the household budget! Every little bit helps...

For those who HAVE to get out to appointments or go to jobs (maybe your spouse), then these money saving tips may help:

Carpooling

Carpooling is ideal if you happen to be going to a place with others living nearby, or on the way, that also need to go to that destination on a regular basis. Most folks will be hip to the idea of saving money, especially with the gas prices as high as they've been over the past year! Get together with potential carpoolers and work out a schedule and start saving that money!

Commuting

If you live in an area that has public transportation - buses or trains - then consider taking these instead of hopping in your vehicle. Remember - this is better for the environment, too!

Maintain Your Vehicle

If you and/or your spouse must drive a vehicle, make sure you keep it well maintained. Change the oil, check fluid levels, belts, hoses, wires, etc at the manufacturers suggested times. Make sure the tires have plenty of air and the right amount of tread - under-inflation can make a huge difference to your gas mileage!

Doing all these things for your vehicle will insure that it's in top running condition, and thus will be as fuel efficient as possible.

Don't leave your engine running...

Letting the car idle, either whilst waiting for your family to get in, or whilst stuck in a jam, is a real waste of gas. If you look as if you're going to be at a standstill for at least a minute or two, then switch off your engine.

Price Comparison

Check out the gas prices at all the gas stations in your area. Shop with the one that offers the lowest price and fill up when do.

Clean out your car

Don't drive a round with unnecessary items stowed in your car - that extra weight causes you to use extra gas! If you have a young child, the stroller should only be in the trunk if you know you're going to use it!

Walk to save!

If you are close enough to where you need to go, then walk! Walking is very healthy for your body, as well as saving on gas and saving the environment.

With these tips you can "win" by saving on the rising costs of gas prices and staying well within your household budget!
